Controller / Accountant for Local Government

Department: Administration

Work Schedule: 8:00 am-4:30 pm

Job Status: Full Time

Reports To: Executive Director


Analyze financial information and prepare financial reports to determine or maintain record of assets, liabilities, profit and loss, tax liability, or other financial activities within an organization.

Essential Functions

  • Prepare, examine, or analyze accounting records, financial statements, or other financial reports to assess accuracy, completeness, and conformance to reporting and procedural standards.
  • Report to management regarding the finances of establishment.
  • Capable of attending monthly board meetings with prepared financial presentations
  • Establish tables of accounts and assign entries to proper accounts.
  • Develop, implement, modify, and document recordkeeping and accounting systems, making use of current Quick Books system.
  • Develop, maintain, and analyze budgets, preparing periodic reports that compare budgeted costs to actual costs.
  • Analyze business operations, trends, costs, revenues, financial commitments, and obligations, to project future revenues and expenses or to provide advice.
  • Appraise, evaluate, and inventory real property and equipment, recording information such as the description, value and location of property.
  • Survey operations to ascertain accounting needs and to recommend, develop, or maintain solutions to business and financial problems.
  • Prepares and processes direct deposit payroll for all employees
  • Assures all applicable fees and taxes are prepared and submitted to appropriate agencies before deadlines.

  • Accuracy – Ability to perform work accurately and thoroughly.
  • Bachelors degree in Accounting, Business, Finance or related discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years of accounting experience.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work closely with senior management team, other governmental agencies and third party auditing agencies
  • Must maintain necessary continuing education units as required by certification agencies


Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $50,000.00 per year
